Xavier Prache succeeds Gilles Bessero as head of Société des Explorations de Monaco. A new page has been turned with the retirement of Gilles Bessero. Xavier Prache, commissaire des armées and previously head of the support group at the Toulon defense base, succeeded him as director on Friday September 1, 2023.
Following its recent presentation in the Conference Room of Monaco’s Oceanographic Museum, the “Regards croisés” exhibition will continue throughout the summer of 2023 on the gates of St-Martin Gardens, near the Prince’s Palace, with the collaboration of Monaco’s Direction des Affaires Culturelles and Direction de l’Aménagement Urbain.
The “Adopt a Float” day on June 22, 2023 at the Institut de la mer in Villefranche-sur-Mer (Sorbonne University/CNRS) was attended by a number of VIPs. Six classes, around 150 pupils, from the Joseph Caldéroni elementary school in Villefranche-sur-Mer have adopted “Bob-the-float” over the course of the school year. Supervised by scientific mediators and their teachers, they followed his scientific journey.

Since March 17th and until June 27th 2023, visitors to the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco are invited to discover in the Conference Room, “Multiple perspectives”, an exhibition unveiling the Indian Ocean 2022 mission of the Explorations de Monaco.
Les Explorations de Monaco will present its initial results and prospects at Monaco Ocean Week, on Tuesday March 21, 2023 at the Oceanographic Museum in the Conference Room.

The BGC Argo float officially handed over by the Principality of Monaco to Mauritius on 22 November 2022 was released into the sea on 25 November at 4.30pm. This float has been adopted by seven Mauritian classes who will follow its journey as part of the Adopt a float educational programme.
The BGC Argo float officially handed over by the Principality of Monaco to the Seychelles was released into the sea on 2 November 2022 at 1am, about sixty miles east of the Saya de Malha Bank. It was deployed with two other multi-instrumented profiling floats by the team of Hervé Claustre, co-leader of the international BGC Argo programme.
