This October 3, 2022, after the last customs formalities and technical verifications, the S.A. Agulhas II left the port of Cape Town in South Africa at 4:32 pm precisely. She is heading for Mauritius, where she is expected on October 10. The days preceding the departure were devoted to final preparations. On October 1st and 2nd, the Explorations de Monaco team welcomed on board personalities and specialized journalists from the environmental press. Gilles Bessero, director of the Explorations de Monaco and head of the mission, presented the mission and its challenges.
Guests on board on October 1st
Several representatives of official Cape Town organizations, partners of the mission, were welcomed on board for a visit of the ship on October 1st. Among them: Mr. Laurent Alberti, Consul General of France in Cape Town, Mr. Bob Yearmann, Honorary Consul of Monaco, Mr. Mukthar Joonas, Honorary Consul of Mauritius, Mr. Dawie Crous and his wife, President of the Princess Charlene Foundation in South Africa, Mrs. Chuma Phamoli, Acting Director of Southern Oceans and Antarctic Support (DFFE).
