Shark nursery in Colombia

The Monaco Explorations mission carried out in Malpelo in March-April 2018 had enabled Sandra Bessudo and her teams to tag 5 female scalloped hammerhead sharks. The satellite beacons placed on these sharks on this occasion, in apnea or in scuba diving, have made it possible since the end of the mission to study the movement of these animals in the East Pacific tropical corridor. The monitoring carried out, combined with other observations, works and surveys by the Foundation, made it possible to locate on the Colombian coast undoubtedly the most important nursery of scalloped hammerhead sharks in the East Pacific Corridor. A remarkable and scientifically significant result because it will allow better protection of the species, now that we know the place where the pregnant females give birth to their young.
