Morocco Joins Monaco's Mediterranean Exploration MissionsLe Maroc rejoint les Missions Méditerranée des Explorations de Monaco

The Société des Explorations de Monaco and the National Institute for Fisheries Research (INRH) of the Kingdom of Morocco have signed a scientific partnership that paves the way for the Morocco Mission. Scheduled for spring 2027, this new phase of the Mediterranean Missions will bring together Moroccan and international scientists to explore the ecosystems along Morocco’s Mediterranean coast.

On July 22 in Rabat, the Société des Explorations de Monaco and the INRH formalized a partnership aimed at preparing for the Morocco Mission and developing new scientific collaborations around the Mediterranean. The agreement was signed in the presence of Ms. Zakia Driouich, Secretary of State for Marine Fisheries, and Xavier Prache, Director of Explorations de Monaco.

Heading to the Morocco Mission

In the spring of 2027, Explorations de Monaco will charter the Malizia Explorer sailboat to lead the Morocco Mission. This expedition will bring together Moroccan and international scientific teams around a common goal: to better understand the marine ecosystems along Morocco’s Mediterranean coast and generate knowledge that will aid in their conservation.

A long-term partnership

In addition to this initial mission, the partnership calls for the development of joint research projects, the sharing of expertise and scientific data, as well as training initiatives and efforts to disseminate the results.

By combining their expertise, Explorations de Monaco and the INRH are strengthening their collaboration to advance knowledge of the Mediterranean. This initiative is part of the commitment championed by H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco to science and the protection of the ocean.
