Albania: towards a new mission by Explorations de Monaco in 2027

The Société des Explorations de Monaco and Albania are strengthening their collaboration to support marine biodiversity and the promotion of marine protected areas.

Following the participation of Mr Sofjan Jaupaj, Albania’s Minister for the Environment, in the 17th edition of the Monaco Bleue Initiative, the Albanian National Agency for Protected Areas (NAPA) and the Société des Explorations de Monaco signed a partnership agreement to prepare for the Albania Mission, scheduled for autumn 2027.

Scientific collaboration in the Mediterranean

This forthcoming mission will bring together scientists and local partners to study Albania’s marine ecosystems.

The research will focus, in particular, on biodiversity and the collection of data aimed at improving our understanding of the environments under study – particularly in marine protected areas – and at supporting their conservation.

Established as part of H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco’s commitment to ocean exploration and protection, the Société des Explorations de Monaco promotes international cooperation through partnerships between scientists and institutions.

Understanding to better protect

In addition to fieldwork, awareness-raising initiatives will help to share the findings and raise awareness of the issues surrounding the conservation of marine heritage.

With this agreement, Monaco and Albania are laying the foundations for a partnership combining research, knowledge-sharing and the protection of the Mediterranean.
