Heading for Greece: MODX 70-01 sets sail from Monaco
First briefings and meeting the crew
On September 22, MODX 70-01 reached the port of Fontvieille for final preparations before its grand departure for Greece.
The day was punctuated by presentations and coordination meetings: meeting the crew, exchanges between sailors, scientists and technicians, finalizing the program and presenting mission objectives. In an atmosphere that was both studious and convivial, everyone got their bearings on board. The first scouting sessions enabled us to discover the work areas, and to discuss logistics, safety and the scientific protocols to come. The ship comes to life as we talk – between briefings, conversations are lively on deck. Team spirit is already well established.

Arrival of scientific equipment and hull flocking
On September 23rd, the docks at Fontvieille were busy from early morning. The scientific equipment gradually arrived: Argo floats, Curiosity microscope, sailing box, and measuring instruments were brought on board under the watchful eye of the teams.
While the scientists are busy installing and testing their equipment, MODX 70-01 takes on a new look: it is decked out in the Monaco Explorations pavilion, proudly displaying the mission’s colors.

Greece mission presented to press and partners
On September 24, MODX 70-01 opens its gangways to the press. Journalists discover the ship, its crew and the objectives of the Greece mission.
On deck, the talk is of oceanography and onboard technology, but also of adventure and scientific cooperation. Journalists even witness a live demonstration of water sampling in the port of Fontvieille to observe the plankton hiding there.
At the end of the day, a cocktail party brings together the participants of the Cercle des Partenaires des Missions Méditerranée and the crew. The atmosphere is warm and everyone shares their pride in seeing this new expedition take shape in Monaco.
The grand departure, in the presence of HSH Prince Albert II
September 25 was the big day. On the quayside in Fontvieille, HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco visited the mission boat, greeted the crew before departure and cast off the last hawser, symbolically marking the departure of MODX 70-01.
To applause, the yacht slowly pulls away, heading east. On board, faces are focused and smiling: a new adventure begins, combining science, exploration and commitment to the Mediterranean.
